OUR ARGENTINE DOGO

"Kilo" is our Argentine Dogo that we are very proud to own. We purchased him from Debonair Dogo Argentinos in San Diego, CA. The Argentine Dogo, also known as the Dogo Argentino,  was developed in Argentina in the early 1900's by Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez and his younger brother Augustin as a breed to hunt wild boar and mountain lion. They used a combination of 10 distinct breeds to develop the Dogo, as they wanted to produce the ultimate hunting and companion dog.

It took 20 years of careful breeding to develop the Dogo into it's own separate breed and consider it a purebred.  The 10 breeds used to develop the Dogo were: 1) Cordoban Fighting Dog(now extinct), 2) Pointer 3) Boxer 4) Great Dane 5) Bull Terrier 6) Bulldog 7) Irish Wolfhound 8)Dogue de Bordeaux 9) Great Pyrenees 10) Spanish Mastiff.

Antonio was killed by a man intending to rob him in 1956, and his younger brother Augustin was left to continue developing the Dogo to what it is today.  The Dogo now is still used as a big game hunter in many countries and the US,  as well as being successful in obedience, military, police work, guides for the blind, tracking, search and rescue, Schutzhund, and many are used as therapy dogs as well.
